ABOUT US

Discover conservation, culture, and the adventure in the heart of the Himalayas

The Kangchenjunga Conservation Area is a protected region in the eastern Himalayas of Nepal, established in 1997. Encompassing 2,035 square kilometers (786 square miles) in the Taplejung District, it includes two peaks of the majestic Kangchenjunga mountain. To the north, it borders the Qomolangma National Nature Preserve in Tibet, while to the east, it connects with the Khangchendzonga National Park in Sikkim, India. Its western boundary adjoins the Sankhuwasabha District of Nepal. The area boasts an impressive elevation range, stretching from 1,200 meters (3,937 feet) to 8,586 meters (28,169 feet) at its highest point.

As part of the Sacred Himalayan Landscape, the Kangchenjunga Conservation Area is a key component of a broader conservation initiative led by WWF Nepal in collaboration with the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD). This initiative aims to preserve the region's unique biodiversity, cultural heritage, and ecological significance.
